I’m a little calmer today, oh yes.

It’s 3:19 and not a work day, but ah well, Phil Wilding in eye liner. (He is funny and Welsh, so there’s every chance I would!)

The Dakar Rally – irresponsible madness January 9, 2009

Filed under: grrrrrrrr — curlyminx @ 12:13 am

So another death on the Dakar Rally.  This time they failed to rescue a 49 man who had set off his emergency beacon, IT TOOK THEM THREE DAYS TO FIND HIM.  Yes three days. Now that’s deriliction of duty in anyone’s book. What does Bry say “no-one makes them enter the rally”, no – they don’t. And no-one has explained why they didn’t answer his emergency beacon for 3 days either. Apparently Paris didn’t alert the rescue teams for a day, then someone thought they say him in the rest-bivouac.  And that’s good enough when someone’s life is at risk is it?

And no-one has convinced me that any race is worth a single death. Yes, not one single death, and certainly not the 56 deaths there have been since 1979.

And if I hear one more “well he died doing what he loved” I shall scream. I’m pretty sure he loved breathing more than he loved the Dakar.

The Argentinian authorities are investigating as it looks like had he been rescued when he should have been he would have survived. I hope they throw the book at them. A big heavy book, that injures them critically and then no-one answers their calls for help for 3 days.

Bryon thinks I’m being unreasonable. I could shake him sometimes, I really could. Two years ago they killed race contestants and bystanders too, including a five year old girl. She was doing what she loved was she? I don’t think so. Last year they cancelled it as they were worried the race might be attacked by terrorists. Good grief. They care about people’s lives now do they? Really? When they are enouraging people to drive or ride so fast that there is on avearage, more than one death a year. I can’t tell you how fed up I am with spoilt, too-much-money and not-enough-sense people charging about with no proper consideration for safety for the contestants or those who watch.

Can you tell I’m cross? I can’t even look at Bryon at the moment, as I will shout. This is the sort of event that he says “looks like a laugh”, oh yes, you can hear the laughter from the families of the dead if you listen closely. What’s that? You think it might be sobbing not laughing? Oh silly me…….
